During the last 6 weeks, were created several posts, in which were addressed the different perspectives of our topic about literature, addapted to media channels. Next, will be presented the ones that I did.
Final Reflection: What all I can say is, this was a great experience of blogging, because it was not only allowed me to learn more about the topic we were investigating, like the existence of very complete websites about books that I never imagine that could be created, or even Youtube channels about books reviews, aspects which prove that Internet and his users are constantly in a way of innovation and creativity.
On the other hand, it also helped me how to deal with Blogger and his tools.
Still, I would say that Ink to Screen helped me to improve my journalistic skills, like hyperlinks, photo captions or videos inclusion on posts.
And now it's time to give my personal experience on blogging. I have to make clear that never had I ever posted on a blog before this one (well, except the personal I had to do for the same subject as this one). That is why I feel it was really interesting seeing how my style improved and grew. The topic of the blog was also helpful since it was something I like and I know a thing or two about. Choosing how to tackle each post and what movies or series to talk about was really entertaining, and it helped me learn more about something I enjoy. Finding out how to use multimedia content was also captivating and I ended up being invested in finding the best use of it.
The end has come. It's time for me to reunite with my family.
With this in mind, I would like to thank you all for taking part in this little adventure. It is now time to close this last post (unless I decide to post more for some reason), and with it,t he time to say goodbye.
Let me tell you, It was not as bad as I thought. I quite enjoyed this, even though the annoying deadlines and some specific topics that you might noticed through the course of blog were not as entertaining *cough* *cough* Sources I use *cough* *cough*
Anyhow, the blogs where a useful way to learn and to express things I like as I already said on the first blog (A Filmlover/Bookworn doing Blogs), especially with the story times and the Martin Scorsese blogs, those where with no doubt my best blogs.
All in all, I want to end this on a good note so, I'm going to do the 50/50 Challenge from Reddit. If you want to know what is exactly the 50/50 challenge, go check out the Fine Brothers videos.
My experience as a blogger has been very positive. I have learned many things, not only about design but about ember code, which were really useful for my posts. It was also a great responsibility, since I had to write an article once a week and make sure my team did as well. But I feel proud about the result. They were as responsible as me, and together we created a blog with interesting content and lots of multimedia.
Graphip description of me as a blogger
I had the chance to talk about books, TV shows and films, which for me was an incredible oportunity.
In conclusion, I have loved being a part of this blog, and I am already looking foward to make the website. Although I had published in other blogs before, this experience was unique and amazing. I wish we could have had more time, because I had a great time posting about a topic I am really interested about: adaptations.
I have really enjoyed working on the blog because we chose a topic that I was reallly interested in. It was not always easy to come up with ideas of each post. However, now that I am able to collect the links of all my posts, I really feel that all this hard work was been worth it. Working with other people also made the experience more interesting; because, until now, I was used to write blogs all by myself. I feel like we have helped each other along the way, and that every member of the group has learnt something new during this journey. Social media has also been a great tool to reach more people and potential readers (thanks to our Instagram and Twitter accounts).
It has been really intesting to be able to write about something that I love and to be able to share my posts with anyone who wants to read them. I founded out also that, thanks to the internet, we are able to share our ideas and opinions. So, now, I would not say that "nobody cares about our blog" because I definetly cared, and so did the other members of my group. I guess that is the end. Thank you very much for following and reading our blog!
I will be honest, I haven't watched many series or movies that have come out this year. This is why the list consist of only 3 entries. The entries may probably not be the best content from this year, but did enjoy it, and that is what I believe counts. With this in mind, let's start the list. 3. 13 Reasons Why
One of the most popular series this year has been 13 Reasons Why and I only watched it because i wanted to jump on the bandwagon. I ended up enjoying it, although I found it to be a bit over average at best. The series is a Netflix exclusive based on the book with the same name by Jay Asher. It talks about a teenager girl called Hannah Baker who commits suicide and leaves 7 cassette tapes in which she gives 13 reasons to why se has done it. Her friend Clay receives them ad starts listening to them to discover what happened.
The reason the series hooked me was that if Clay had received the tapes, he was in one of them. And I really wanted to know what he had done. by the time I arrived there I really wanted to see the series until the end.
The series was not polemic-free. Due to its portrayal of suicide, some people hated on it saying it romantiziced it while others praised it for giving awareness to these kind of topics. The main result of this was that it gained even more popularity.
Based on the book series "A Series of Unfortunate Events" by Daniel Handler under the pseudonym Lemony Snicket, this Netflix series adapts the first four books and a second season is supposed too cover the next five books. Each book is developed in two chapters. The series follow the Baudeliere brothers as their parents are killed in a fire and they are sent to their supposed relative Count Olaf, who tries to kill them to get their fortune in many different.
The series is quite entretaining, with a fair amount of humor and drama alike. The pacing is quite good and it makes you want to keep watching. Overall, although not the best series out there, it is really entretaining.
My favorite movie of this year so far. I really loved. It is based on various stories of Marvel's character Wolverine, including Old Man Logan, one of my favorites. It talks about an aged Wolverine in which mutants are almost extinct. he takes careof a senile Charles Xabier. After some conflict he finds a girl who doesn't talk and he has to take care of her. I won't tell more in order not to spoil the movie.
Everything about it is great: the plot is interesting, the characters are likable, the action scenes are superb and it even has some moments that can make you cry. It is also the last movie with Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, or so has he said, so we might as well appreciate it while we can.
This was without any doubt one of the best films from 2016.
The performances were espectacular. Brie Larson totally deserved that Oscar and the little Jacob Tremblay has make a path for himself in the acting world.
If you haven't seen Room, you should totally do it. But don't confuse Room with The Room, that is a whole different story. (That one has been catalog as the worst movie ever, but if you want to watch it ironically, oh boy, get ready to cringe)
Going back to the marvelous Room, the scenery in the room looks amazing. At the beginning you can see how Mom and Jack live in that tiny space and how Jack doesn't feel claustrophobic, that small room is his whole life, but for her mother, is the constant reminder that she is kidnap and rape by a sick man that lives next to the shed they call Room.
For seven years that has been her life: a shed with a bed, two chairs a small kitchen, a bathtub, a toilet and a closet where she has to hide her little boy from the night's she's rape by Old Nick.
Emma Donoghue, the writer portrayed that story scenery in her books that is unbelievable because is actually narrated by the little jack, that is only 5 years old. And to think that it was based on a case where the girl was rape by his father makes it worse. If you want more insight about the creepy story that inspired the great book. As I see
it, while it is true that 2016 had many interesting films and TV shows releases;
"The Handmaid's Tale" was the best book adaptation from the whole
year. In fact, the television series achieved the astonishing 95% of positive
reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. The show has even become so popular that there are a lot of parodies of the first season´s trailer. Down below you can compare the original trailer (by Hulu) and one hilarious parody (by Funny Or Die).
"TheHandmaid's Tale" is an American TV show created by Bruce Miller based on
the 1985 novel of the same name by Canadian writer Margaret Atwood. Although
the television series was released this year, it was indeed in 2016 when the
production of the TV show began. It is also important to know that the show was
produced by Hulu Originals.
The synopsis
of the series is the following: "A religion-based autocracy has taken over
most of the United States, renaming the country Gilead. In this country women
are second-class citizens. Anyone trying to escape is punished. One such person
is June, who is captured while trying to escape with her husband and child and
is sentenced to be a handmaid, bearing children for childless government
officials. As a handmaid, June is renamed Offred. This is her story." -
IMBD
The critics
praised the adaptation with many positive reviews:
"The
Handmaid's Tale, based on the 1985 Margaret Atwood novel, is a cautionary tale,
a story of resistance and a work of impeccable world building. It is
unflinching, vital and scary as hell."-New York Times
"Hulu's
all-too-timely adaptation of Margaret Atwood's novel is one of the spring's
best new shows and makes Elisabeth Moss an immediate Emmy contender." -
Hollywood Reporter
"Another
reason to watch: It's just so beautifully acted."-Boston Globe
The casting
was also excellent. Elisabeth Moss, the protagonist, brilliantly brings her
character to life. However, Elisabeth, until the release of was mainly known by
her iconic role in the television series "Mad Men". In addition, she received
this year the prestigious Emmy Award for "Best Actress in a Drama Series" for her role as June / Offred in "The Handmaid's Tale".

However,
when talking about the adaptation of the book to the screen, we also have to
take into account that this was not the first time that an adaptation for the
screen was made. In fact, in 1990 was released a film version, also called
"The Handmaid's Tale". This dystopian thriller also was a huge success
at the time.
In addition,
I would like to highlight two other examples of good books adaptations:
ME BEFORE YOU
I think that they did very well on a book to movie adaptation,
because they did not change too much from the book. The movie was perfectly
made, and fit my expectations for the movie. The casting and portrayal of
Louisa and Will was also brilliant. There two characters were charismatic, and
enjoyable, and matched the dialogue of the book. Which,
for me, was very important.
THE FLASH
The third
season of The Flash premiered on October 4, 2016. This season was different from
the first two ones. Now, we get to meet a more mature and tormented Barry
Allen. The portrayal of Grant Gustin was formidable. This season Barry has to
face all the damage that he has provoked. Only by getting over it he would be
able to became The Flash from the comics.
This years there has been many adaptations from books. While some of them were amazing and incredible, others were disappointing and unsatisfying. In this post, I have made a list about the best ones, including not only films but TV shows.
Based on the popular character from DC comics, this superhero movie had a great reception. The main character, Diana Prince, was played by Gal Gadot, who did a fantastic job. The special effects were awesome, as well as the plot and the cast. However, one of the best aspects of the films were the action scenes, which were stunning and fascinating. The film was directed by Patty Jenkins, and was released on June of 2017.
This TV show has been on air since 2014, and has 4 seasons that will soon become 5. The story was based on the books from Kass Morgan, although there are many changes from the novels. In the last season, which was released on February of 2017, new characters were introduced, as well as a plot which was different from the one we had seen in the previous seasons. Although there were several deaths that the fans are still moarning about, the season was a huge success.
This film is by far one of the most entertaining and crazy adaptations of Jane Austen's novel: Pride and prejudice. It is a parody of this romantic story, which contains the perfect excuse to show violence on the screen, also known as zombies. The cast has acclaimed actors and actresses, such as Lily James -who plays Elizabeth, the main character-, Matt Smith, Lena Headey or Sam Riley.
This is a famous british show, which is based on Sir Arthur Doyle'sSherlock Holmes detective stories. This year, season 4 was released, 3 years after the last one. With only a few episodes, many mysteries were revealed, and a huge plot-twist took place that left a lot of fans in shock. The main character is played by Benedict Cumberbatch, while his companion, Dr. Watson, is played by Martin Freeman.
In my opinion, the best work done, in the last 6 months, in relation to my topic, was the adaptation of It, a literary work coordenated by Stephen King, which tell us a story about a killer clown that exploits the children`s fears. It threatens to be totally terryfying, so it is better to be well awake to see the movie or read the book.

Besides, there is another story invented by the same author of It, which is based on a series of eight books that, once again, crosses the horror, with a mixture of Western, and sci-fi genres. It`s called The Dark Tower , and it centers on a young man, who is transported to a realm called Mid-World, where he joins a quest to save the land.

In conclusion, we have a woman, which gets a job at a powerful tech company called The Circle but begins to uncover his secrets. This Dave Eggers creation deals with how we use technology, and the boundaries between private and public, using the lead character`s experience to explore whether tech companies ever get too close to comfort.
Choosing which movie to watch or which book to read is a hard decision for many people and can take some time. Finding the right entretainment can take some time and you may end up giving u and just watch that movie a friend talked you about a few years ago. Thankfully, with the appearance of social networks it is now easier to find recomendations and hear what everyone has to say about a certain book or movie.
Subway book review's account
Instagram is a great example for this. You can find accounts that try to review movies or books in a new and different way. I have found two of them quite interesting. The first one is@thefancycritic. The man behind it is a communications student called Liero Marchesi, who has always loved watching movies and one day decided to start giving his opinions about them on instagram. The account is not that well known but he does give good content with opnionated grades, critcal grades and other websites' grades, as well as personal reviews. Another account that grabbed my interest even more is @subwaybookreview. The idea behind it is asking people in the subway what they are reading and to give a small review about the book. The best thing is that it is really varied because every person has each own likings in regards to books and so each person has something new to show.
Twitter can also be a good place to look for reviews or suggestions. Although I don't really know any specific account, you can just find anyone's views on anything just by using the Twitter search engine. Look up that book you have been lately interested in and suddenly your screen wil be filled with different opinions or reviews.
A logo for booktubers
Lastly there's YouTube. Apart from the film critics like the ones I mentioned in "Behind my work"(Dayo and I Hate Everything), there are also booktubers, that is, youtubers that review books. Although I don't watch them and so can't recommend I have heard they are really useful and amusing. There are also some lists about which ones are good.
There are also other websites and social networks that cover our topic but I belive these are the most notable.
Nowadays, there are several ways to spread information and to stay informed. In the case of books adaptations, I would like to mention a few that I find really interesting and reliable.
By doing videos about novels or poetry, these people have become a new kind of journalists. They talk about their favourite books and comics, and their followers can rely on their opinions since they have solid arguments and experience. With their reviews, they advertise the books that they believe are the best. Most of them are young people who know the interests of their generation, which is really useful in order to convince their followers to give literature a try. This new way of communication is changing advertisement as we know it. At the right, you can see Newyorkbookworm, a booktuber which talks about this phenomenom.
An affordable option to learn about writers and the latest news regarding books is listening to specialised podcasts. This form of entertainment has become more famous over the past four years, and it's only growing. In their recordings, you can find interviews, stories and reviews. You can easily download them on iTunes, and listen to them whenever you want to. Some of the most popular are Selected Shorts -there is an example below-, New Yorker Fiction Podcast and Books and Authors
Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr and Instagram are only a few examples of where to find information about book adaptations. Since everyone can express themselves, news and rumours are spread faster than anywhere else. However, this comes with a flaw: The statements can be fake. But if you check the facts and don't trust uncertain accounts, you shouldn't have any problem. The main feature about social networks is the speed at which news are spread.
One of the best ways to find information on the internet is through blogs. They provide news, trailers, reviews and even tests. With them, you can read longer posts about books or movies that you are interested in. In these websites you can even find links to others where you are able to download novels or films. There are many languages and topics that you can read about, besides of the multimedia content they post. One of the most important pages that are available on the internet is Sarah's Book Shelves.
Nowadays, YouTube is the form of entertainment and reliable information source for the so call "Millennials" kids. No wonder why there's so many people wanting to be a YouTuber. They have network deals and worldwide recognition, if they set themselves with constancy and hard work, so there's the key if you want to succeed on that medium!
And inside that spectrum they are tones and tones of different categories and genres in which the "YouTubers" develop. Today we're going to dive in the "BookTubers", a very humble and no so exploited zone of the YouTube space, that casually covers the one part of this dear blog. Books.
As a bookworm, this kind of YouTube channels come in handing when I want to have a review of a book. They have nice reviews and every channels has its very own personality that brings a fresh overlook on the book. Now, I'm going to recommend three channels:
EPIC READS: They show reviews, book trailers, upcoming books that they publish and more
THUG NOTES: I have mentioned this section from Wisecrack already, and I don't know why but, I love the analysis from Sparky Sweets, PhD. The literature classics are his speciality.
JAVIER RUESCAS: He is, to me, one of the best BookTubers at the moment. Being him a writer of novels and talking about classics with his charisma and engaging eloquence, I never get tired of him. So go check it out now! His videos are sadly just in Spanish but he has some interviews with English writers that are worth watching.
First, I am
going to select the most relevant media sites that cover our topic, from written
words to the big and small screen. The three sites that I have chosen are: the
twitter account 140 Book Promo, the Real Weird Sisters podcasts and the New York
Times online newspaper, specifically I am going to talk about the movie section.
As they say,
they are real sisters who shared a common bond for Harry Potter that has
brought them close together. Now that they are adults and living in two
different parts of the country (Chicago and Montana), they have decided to
broadcast their love for Harry Potter to the world by podcasting weekly
together about what they see as the greatest literary masterpiece of our time.
I have
chosen their podcasts as an example of how they cover a movie adaptation from a
book. They have movie reviews podcasts in where they talk about their opinions about the Harry Potter´s books adaptations. You can hear their podcast "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone Movie Review" here. All credits goes to The Real Weird Sisters.
In this section
you can find any article you want about movies and that includes news from
movie adaptations. I recommend this page because its content is very reliable
and because they always have articles covering the latest news in what respects
to movies.
As an
example, I recommend you to read the next article of the NY Times web: "The Year in adaptation" by John Williams (2014)
This
account posts regularly tweets about movies, and they use the hashtag movieadaptation; which is, indeed, very useful
when looking for the latest movies and books adaptations in their twitter account. They usually provide their followers with loads of news about the upcoming releases of books, TV shows and movies.
How social media can cover the topic of this blog?
It`s not easy to find a secure and trustful page on social media, which can
help people to find the information they need. There are some examples that can
be recommendable to follow and use, when you want to know more about a book and
his adaptation to the other existent media.
USA TODAY's Best-Selling Books list ranks the 150
top-selling titles each week based on an analysis of sales from U.S.
booksellers. Besides, we can find all the book genres, right a proper
description about what the book contains, and the reviews, which gave to people
another vision of each literary work (It helps to select correctly what we
desire to search).
There is a channel on Youtube, which tell us
everything about all kinds of books , including those who aren't wildly popular
bestsellers. It`s directed by two brothers, John and Hank. Through their
videos, we can access to lots of information and helpful links, which lead us
directly to each book, talked in that video, in specific.
The page of the bimonthly literary magazine of
international literature, World Literature Today, on Twitter offers all the
possibilities to a great reading, like it shows contemporary, but also old
books, audiobooks, and other interesting book suggestions. It can be followed
by every public, because of his literature diversity that has, and it has still
an almost daily update, which is other important point to consider.
Sometimes, book adaptations should be forgotten and ignored. This is the case with Shadowhunters, a TV show from Freeform which is based on the books of Cassandra Clare. Although She has writen about the Shadowhunter's world many times, her first series -The Mortal Instruments- were the most popular. Because of her recognition and success, she was offered the incredible chance to have a TV show inspired by her saga. It was a disaster.
Poster of the movie
Before we start talking about the series, we should remember the first time that these novels were adapted. In 2013, a movie called City of Boneswas released. It wasn't a blockbuster, but it was okay. Many fans agreed that the casting had been excellent, as well as the special effects. Some changes had been made from the book, but everyone though they were necessary and tolerable. However, the movie didn't make enough bennefits, and Constantin Film Production decided that there wouldn't be a sequel.
Fans were devastated, but soon another oportunity came up. When the TV show was announced, all the readers felt excited and thrilled. The first teaser seemed very good, and the emotion kept growing. The first hint that something was wrong appeared with the trailer. The special effects weren't as good as in the film, and the main actress -Katherine McNamara- didn't surprise in a good way the fans. But the readers still had hopes and believed in this adaptation.
By the time the first season had ended, many fans were already pretending it had never happened. Important changes in the plot had been made, and the characters had different interests and personalities. This show had more diversity than the movie, which is always a good point, but something just didn't work with so many differences from the books. While the movie had a darker perspective, the show seemed more childlike. The characters were hunting demons and weird creatures, but the spectator didn't feel scared or concerned because the story was more optimistic and juvenile.
Official photo of the Shadowhunters show
Cassandra Clare, the author of these novels, was asked about her opinion on these changes, but she said that she doesn't make that kind of decisions. She also said that the fans shouldn't argue about whether the series or the books are better, because they are just different. However, it is difficult to ignore the huge contrast between the two adaptions and the book itself.
To end, I would like to discourage the readers of the book to give it a try. I know you may think that it is not that awful but trust me: It is. If you haven't read the books, there is a chance you might enjoy it, but the odds are you will dislike it anyway. Some of the actors are great, but the storyline is just too bad.

"If you treat movie making as a career this class isn't for you.But if you need to make movies, if you feel like you can't rest until you've told this particular story that you're burning to tell, then I could be speaking to you."
Just with saying those lines, I believe Martin Scorsese is a genius on the field. He does not believe that Filmaking is a career, is a form of life, an urgency to whom wants to tell their point of view through the screen.
Since I was a baby with any knowledge of who is Martin Scorsese whatsoever, his work has been praised and awarded with the Academy Awards, Rotten Tomatoes reviews of "Freshness", Emmy's, Golden Globe's, The Golden Palm from the Cannes Festival, BAFTA,a Directors Guild of America Awards and even a Legion of Honour. Is pretty obvious he is no joke in the film industry.
Hugo was one of the first films I saw from Scorsese and knew that it was from Scorsese. I not gonna lie, the movie is stunning, with the production and the photography. (Props to the team)
Here is a list of my favourites films from Scorsese:
"This talent for breaking the norm
and opening up new cinematic avenues is one of Scorsese’s trademarks. He’s also
noted for using dramatic slow motion and long tracking shots, such as the
famous Copa Shot."
